An online seminar carries most of the good of a room — but not the part that happens afterward, when readers linger, argue, and recommend books to one another. This site is for that informal life.
The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty — it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There’s a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.
Why a separate place
Seminars are formal: a faculty member guides a set text at a set hour. What is missing between them is unhurried and unscheduled — the questions that arrive three days late, the passage someone finally understood on a walk. That deserves its own room, with a lighter touch than a seminar and a longer memory than a chat.
